Join us for a film screening of 'Will & Harper (2024)' a Netflix documentary about Will Ferrell and his long-time friend Harper Steele taking a road trip across the United States. Will and Harper have been friends since their time on Saturday Night Live in 1995, when Harper was a writer and Will was a young comedian. When Harper comes out as a trans woman, they decide to go on a road trip to spend time together and help Harper reintroduce herself to the country as her authentic self. The two experience a range of reactions from strangers, including support and hatred. They also encounter both accepting and unwelcoming environments, such as an all-you-can-eat restaurant in Texas and a Pacers game where they meet the governor of Indiana.

The Zimmerli Art Museum holds the largest collection of Soviet nonconformist art in the world, showcasing Russia’s diverse artistic heritage. Over 20,000 works by more than 1,000 artists reveal a culture that defied the strict, state-imposed conventions of Socialist Realism. The collection also includes nonconformist art produced in numerous ethnically-diverse Soviet republics.
This tour will also include a current exhibition - The Body Implied - where artists explore the body in relation to the state and the self. With Gorbachev’s glasnost (openness), artists from 1970 and onwards have been able to more openly critique the Soviet regime and respond to political, and artistic, repression.

Cultural humility embodies a journey of self-awareness and receptiveness, where one recognizes their own cultural roots and embraces the opportunity to gain insights from diverse perspectives. It serves as a counterpart to cultural competency, emphasizing the cultivation of attitudes and practices that enable meaningful engagement with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
An inclusive community nurtures a sense of belonging, allowing individuals to partake in activities, events, and spaces without barriers related to age, ability, income, or ethnic background. To foster such a community, consider these strategies:
- Implement Equity-Focused Policies: Develop and enforce policies that actively promote equity and remove systemic barriers. This could involve creating affordable housing programs, ensuring equal access to community services, and implementing anti-discrimination policies to support diverse participation in all community aspects.
- Cultivate Community Education and Training: Offer education and training programs that raise awareness about diversity, equity, and inclusion. These programs can help community members understand the importance of inclusivity and learn how to create environments where everyone feels valued and respected.
- Encourage Diverse Community Leadership: Support and promote diversity in leadership roles within community organizations and governance. This ensures that a variety of voices are heard in decision-making processes and that the community’s leadership reflects its diverse population, thereby promoting a more inclusive environment.
